Many home theater enthusiasts prefer a big screen TV to the bulky projection systems. They sacrifice screen size for picture quality and space requirements. There are many types of televisions to choose from but we will cover the Plasma vs. LCD TV debate first.
Plasma TV is by far the coolest and most expensive. They are extra thin, (only a few inches) and very lightweight. They’re great for small rooms or apartments since they can be hung on the wall like a picture. The superior contrast, brightness and wide viewing angle of color plasma TV’s, have made them an excellent choice for viewing HDTV programming. The price of Plasma TV’s has been dropping recently with prices starting at around a thousand dollars all the way up to 20K for a top of line huge plasma TV.
LCD (liquid crystal display) TV’s are very similar to LCD computer monitors and offer video reproduction quality approaching that of plasma displays. LCD models generally cost less than comparable plasma models. They are extremely lightweight and thin and come in sizes from 7 inches to about 32 inches and more.
Of course as the big screen TV debate continues, we must not forget the standard CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) TV’s. These deliver great picture quality and are the most affordable by screen size. The negative is that they are very heavy and bulky. That is why they are losing ground to the slimmer, lightweight Plasma and LCD TV’s.
High Definition TV is becoming the new standard for TV’s. The current format for television broadcasting in America, as well as much of the world, is the NTSC format. While analog NTSC may have been the format of choice for nearly 50 years, digital broadcasting is revolutionizing the broadcast industry. High definition digital television broadcasting (HDTV) provides a much higher image resolution than NTSC. While NTSC could only provide around 650 lines of information per image, HDTV offers up to 1080 lines. This allows for much more detail and clarity.

The new High definition TV’s are the best way to watch really good high quality TV and it is much better than any other TV that is available. They do this by having a higher number of pixels on the screen than usual plasma TV’s. But to get the best from them you need to watch the high definition programs. But there are a lot of them being made now so it should not be a problem. But when you see a high definition program on a good quality HDTV then you will notice a real difference. The whole picture is a lot clearer and is much easier to watch.
The picture quality on a high definition TV is usually much better than it is on an LCD TV due to the fact that they have a much better contrast and so the quality of the picture is better. Plasma TV’s also offer you the same view wherever you are viewing it from. There is not change in the picture as with a traditional TV and even an LCD TV is not the same when it is viewed from the side. But an HDTV will always look the same from every angle so you can always get a good picture on it.
One of the other benefits with plasma TV’s is that they are so flat that you can hang them on the wall. This not only saves a lot of space but it also means that you have a really good way to view your favorite film as though you were at the cinema. If you have a good 42″ HD TV then you can get a really good show but you must make sure that your dvd player can show high definition dvd’s. Not all of them can and if yours is an older model then you might have to buy a new one to get the best picture for your new TV.
HD TV’s are the latest thing and are well worth the extra money. When you first see the screen, you will realize that the high definition technology makes a real difference to the quality of the picture and this makes it well worth the cost. But you do not have to just pay the retail cost. If you look around there are some really good deals that could save a lot of money and get the best deal for you.

If this doesn’t get you excited, then nothing will. LCD TVs have become all the rage and there is nothing better than a big screen TV. And when you couple LCD TV with HD TV, look out. An amazing physical display combined with a fantastic output. This is what is happening in LCD TV technology today.
If you are like most people looking to replace your TV, you’ve probably been paying close attention to High Definition Television sets (HD-TV). Unlike the previous generation of TV, which used analog signals to transmit information, HD-TVs use digital signals to transmit a signal and receive and display information directly on the television set. The HD-TVs also use a High-Resolution digital television set and Dolby Digital surround sound. The combination of the two creates incredible pictures and sounds - the best available on the market to date. HD-TV television offers viewers a level of detail they haven’t seen before: including a resolution about five times higher than that of analog TV.
The main thing to remember when you are shopping for HD-TV set is that just because a television is “digital” it does not mean it is necessarily “HD-TV compatible”. There are two levels below the HD level (standard definition TV and enhanced definition TV), both of which are vastly better than analog televisions but still of considerably lower quality than an LCD TV- HD-TV set. Since the FCC has mandated that all television sets eventually switch from analog to digital, you should know the differences between the different types of digital TVs.
Here are some tips. When looking to purchase an HD-TV, remember to compare the difference in picture resolution, audio features, and pixels. HD-TV requires a minimum of 720 horizontal scanning lines (enhanced definition TV, while considerably higher than standard definition TV, only features a minimum of 480 scanning lines) and the resolution on an HD-TV is 1920 x 1080 compared to enhanced definition TV, which only has a resolution of 1280 x 780.
When you experience a HD-TV image and then compare it to other TVs’ technology on the market, the difference will be clear. With “HD” everything looks and sounds far more realistic than on any other type of system. We think that once you see a big screen LCD TV with HD-TV, the choice will be clear.
This is just the tip of the iceberg when looking for a HD LCD TV. In fact, many of the most important tips haven’t been mentioned here. Learn about LCD TVs before making a purchase.
